Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial visited the Army House, Rawalpindi on April 14 to meet the Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, according to journalist Asad Ali Toor.
In a podcast on Tuesday, he said the top judge's convoy was seen moving on the route, as he was aboard vehicle SC001.
He also showed a 11-second clip of a convoy to substantiate his claim, but made it clear that the Raja Atif, to whom the video belonged, didn't name CJ Bandial as being a part of the convoy.
Quoting his sources, Toor said that the Chief Justice apprised the COAS about his family's services for the military.
He also spoke about how the Supreme Court facilitated army in the past, while the current political crisis also came under discussion on the occasion, the journalist added.
On April 17, the Director General of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum, paid a ‘courtesy call’ on CJ Bandial at the SC. He was accompanied by Director General Military Intelligence (DGMI) Maj General Wajid Aziz, and Secretary Defence Lt Gen (retd) Hamood-uz-Zaman Khan.
The meeting also included Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan and Justice Munib Akhtar, according to sources who said that the purpose was to relay the view of the establishment on Punjab elections ordered by the SC.
In the meeting, the directors-general of ISI and MI reportedly presented a detailed assessment of the security threats facing the country in general, and to the elections process in particular. Sources claim the judges were briefed on the ongoing and future deployment of military personnel because of which they “would not be available” for election security duties.
Analysts purport that the 2-3 hours long meeting was held to inform the superior judiciary that the current security establishment feels elections in Punjab on May 14 are not feasible. Also, if the CJP is intent on elections, then the establishment would want both federal and provincial elections be held simultaneously.
